Current Projects

We at NLB Cat Rescue are working with cats on a daily basis, in various capacities. Below are some details about what we are currently working on, and we hope to share more updates on this page as we grow.

High Quality-High Volume Spay/Neuter

We shared on another post that there is an estimated one million to three million free-roaming, unowned community cats in Los Angeles. The existence of one clinic, or even a handful of clinics, is not enough. The TNR movement needs more access to quality spay/neuter surgeries available to unaltered community cats. We are working to secure funding for a high volume day in order to coordinate a mass trapping project. This would allow us to sterilize at least 30 community cats with an exceptional mobile vet clinic. Mass trapping is a targeted project that makes the most impact. Instead of ad hoc trapping as free-roaming, unowned cats arrive, a high volume day would allow our group to work with caretakers and seasoned trappers to coordinate efforts and fix an entire colony. This project, as you can imagine, is not free. Our bill per high volume day will be about $5,000. Please consider donating here.

Foster/Adoption Program

Often during the course of our TNR efforts, we find friendly unowned cats and kittens who would be better suited for the indoor life. Our group also receives daily messages about rehome requests, abandoned animals, and surrenders. Their care for these new intakes, including medical bills for spay/neuter and any other urgent medical attention, is not free. We are also always in need of fosters. If you can assist as a foster, please reach out via our website today. We are fortunate to now serve as a PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner, with our available friends located in the PetSmart Compton Adoption Center. With more volunteers and resources, we plan to host adoption events at the store as well. With more available fosters, we can responsibly accept new intakes and provide the needed care.

Education

I am currently enrolled in a Community Cats Management Program, and enjoying the materials. As I learn more in this space, I hope to share more information here. This course will also help our growing organization create and sustain programs for the community, cats and humans alike.
