Who is “The Modern Cat Lady”?

I define a Modern Cat Lady as someone who responsibly cares for felines. This includes being a spay/neuter advocate, caring for our companion animals to the best of our abilities, and maybe even extending care to unowned, free-roaming cats that cross our path. Some of us work in vet med and some of us simply love cats and want to help as best we can. Others work in shelter environments, giving kindness to the animals most in need. Some Modern Cat Ladies are fantastic trappers, known to get even the most elusive community cat into a trap, then to a clinic for their appointment. Others just joined the movement recently, but feel just as compelled as the pioneers of TNR to, as Stacy LeBaron of the Community Cats Podcast says, “turn our passion for cats into action.”

Clearly, there is no singular definition of the Modern Cat Lady, but it is safe to say that we are passionate about responsible care of cats, whether our own companion animals or unowned cats in need of help. We strive to share information with the public about TNR, spay/neuter of owned animals in order to avoid those animals becoming part of the overpopulation crisis, and provide care or services to community requests. A small, but committed team, each day we choose to continue helping cats, however we can.

As our efforts grow, I hope to share profiles of some of these incredible individuals. Each advocate is an unsung hero in her respective community, making a difference daily in the lives of cats - cats who otherwise may never receive the help they need.

Please consider supporting our efforts through a donation. Our donation page provides a cost breakdown of how donations are used (food for colony cats, spay/neuter appointments, to name two priority items). We currently fund our efforts with our vet tech salaries (we know, the math does not math) and generous donations. Ultimately, spending our resources on cats (any, all) is important to us and we intentionally do so on a daily basis.
